The Thunderers

Jesus and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. They planned to take the road through the country of Samaria. At one Samaritan village Jesus planned to spend the night. He sent messengers ahead to find a place for them to stay.

But the Samaritans did not want Jesus and his disciples to stay overnight in their town. 

Jesus and his disciples were Jews. Because the Jews had often been unkind to the Samaritans, the Samaritans did not want anything to do with the Jews.

James and John were furious that they had been refused lodging for the night. They said, "Lord, why don't you call fire down from heaven on this village?"

Jesus answered, "How wrong you are! The Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them."

Jesus went on to another village, and his disciples followed.
